Hydrogen is a promising alternative fuel due to its high energy density, and clean burning properties. This paper aims to review the status of research on hydrogen fuel, focusing on its production, storage, and applications.

Hydrogen is produced from various sources, including hydroelectric separation, steam methane conversion, and biomass gasification. A hydroelectric reactor is a clean and renewable resource that can generate electricity from hydrogen through the water. Steam methane reforming is a more mature technology that releases hydrogen from natural gas but produces greenhouse gases. Compressed gas and liquid hydrogen are common storage and transport methods, but they have limitations. Metal hydrides and other hydrogen storage materials are being developed. Transport vehicle tanks are designed as a composite of carbon fiber steel with polymer liner reinforcement for the safety of the system. The task here is to keep the liquid hydrogen intact in variable temperatures, pressures, and different altitudes. Hydrogen fuel cells can power electric vehicles, allowing longer driving range and shorter refueling time. In steady-state energy, hydrogen can be used for auxiliary power, integrated heat and power, and grid balancing.

The behavior of hydrogen in thermodynamic engines with a wide range of flammability and easy ignition is dangerous for knocking engine parts. The mixture of natural gas and hydrogen with other fuels can be a solution for the vehicular transportation system including storage tanks and filling stations. Cryogenic liquid hydrogen tanks and underground structured storage tanks hold liquid hydrogen at –423° F and compressors for transferring at single or multiple stages need to be utilized.

Conclusion:-

In conclusion, hydrogen plays an important role in the transition to a sustainable energy future. Continued research and development are needed to overcome the technical and economic challenges of using hydrogen as a clean and flexible energy source.
